ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT
WHAT WE DO: The Tax Receiver collects town and county property taxes as well as taxes for the six school districts located within the town: Jamesville-Dewitt, Lafayette, Onondaga Central, Marcellus, West Genesee and Westhill.
TAX COLLECTION TIMEFRAMES: Town and county property tax bills are sent at the end of December and school tax bills are sent in late August or early September to properties not in escrow.
METHODS OF PAYMENT: Personal and bank checks, money orders, and online credit card and e-check payments are accepted. Cash payments are not accepted per a June 2021 Resolution of the Town Board. Please note that there is a service charge for online credit card payments of approximately 3% and a fee for e-check payments. The exact amount inclusive of these fees will be displayed before you complete your payment.
DIRECTIONS FOR ONLINE PAYMENTS: To pay by credit card or e-check, go to ongov.net/etax. Partial payments cannot be made online. To easily locate your property, do not use a prefix or suffix in the Street Name box. For example, if you live on NE Townline Rd., only type Townline. Or even Town.
PARTIAL PAYMENTS: Partial payments are accepted if there are no delinquent taxes due. The first payment must be made on or before the no-penalty due date. The partial payment can be in any amount for town and county bills, and for all school tax bills in all districts EXCEPT JAMESVILLE-DEWITT. Jamesville Dewitt requires partial payments of at least 50% of the amount due. Partial payments cannot be made online.
NON-RECEIPT OF TAX BILLS: If you do not receive a tax bill, please contact us and we will send a duplicate bill to help you avoid potential late penalties. Bills are also available online at ongov.net/etax. We make every effort to ensure you receive your tax bill, however it is ultimately the responsibility of the property owner to know when taxes are due and payable.
NEW PROPERTY OWNERS: If you move up to 90 days preceding mailing of tax bills, please be sure to notify us to prevent bills from being forwarded to the previous owner of the property and to avoid potential late payment penalties.
THIRD PARTY NOTIFICATIONS: Property owners who, due to illness or age, wish to have a third party also receive a copy of their tax bill may do so by completing an application and returning it to our office. Please email or call us for a form.
